Ayestaran replaces Garcia at Tel Aviv

articlemain

Pako Ayestaran has been appointed Maccabi Tel Aviv Manager after the shock resignation of Oscar Garcia.

The former Liverpool assistant-manager joined the Israeli champions after Garcia's family pressured him to leave Israel due to the ongoing conflict.

Garcia quit Brighton in May and re-joined Maccabi Tel Aviv whom he had led to the first of back-to-back championships in 2013. He has now been linked with Leeds and Fulham.

Maccabi general manager Jordi Cruyff said: "I don’t want to judge Garcia. Sometimes situations occur and we have to make difficult personal decisions.

"We believe that our new manager is the right person to take us forward and he will have an immediate impact on the players."

Ayestaran, who served as Rafa Benitez’s assistant at Valencia and Liverpool, managed Mexican team Tecos UAG last season.
