WATFORD FRIENDLY LEAGUE UNDER NINE GREEN DIVISION
Pinner JFC 1 Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes 1
A goal from Guy Appel took Pinner JFC another step towards the WFL Under Nine Green Division title following a hard fought draw against Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes.
This week’s league match for the Sky Blues promised to be a very tight affair against second-place Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes.
With one remaining game for Pinner, who hold a four-point lead and Hadley with a game in hand, only a win or draw would be enough to see their title challenge go one step closer.
The weather was inclement to say the least, with wind, rain and sleet making conditions difficult. With the Foxes kicking downhill and with the wind at their backs, they mounted some good early pressure which the Home side dealt with comfortably.
Then five minutes from the break, a well-taken corner resulted in the scoring being opened by a long-range drive, beating the Sky Blues keeper.
In the second period and with a couple of substitutions made, it was not long before, also from a resulting corner, that the ball was bundled into the opposition's net by striker Guy Appel, who registered his fourth goal in four games.
Pinner then continued to pile on the pressure in rapidly deteriorating conditions, coming very close to taking the lead on a number of occasions.
The Foxes also had a couple of chances which were dealt admirably by the Sky Blues keeper.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw which was a fair result and with a win next week at Alexander Park should see Pinner lift the title.
Pinner's man-of-the-match award went to Noah Abrahams for his rock-like performance in the centre of the park.
