Arsenal trial for Tel Aviv wonder kid

articlemain

Arsenal have handed a trial to Gael Margolis, a 16-year-old striker at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Margolis started the season in theUnder 16s, but after scoring two goals in September he was promoted to the youth team where he has scored two goals in Maccabi's last two matches.

Youth team coaches have said that they would not be surprised if the talented striker, who will be 17 in April, is offered a place in the Arsenal Academy.

Maccabi Tel Aviv spokesman Ofer Ronen-Abels said: "Margolis has a week to impress at Arsenal."

In November, Tel Aviv youth team captain Omri Altman failed to impress after being given a trial by Liverpool.

Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea boss, is confident that midfielder Yossi Benayoun will be back in action in March. The Israel captain is recovering from surgery on a torn Achilles in October.

Ancelotti said: "It's 14 weeks since Benayoun had surgery. I think he needs to have another six to eight weeks to fully recover. Everything is okay, he just needs more time."

Benayoun is looking to return in time for the Champions League quarter-finals, assuming Chelsea beats FC Copenhagen, and Israel's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Latvia and Georgia at the end of March.

Tal Ben Haim hopes to complete a permanent move to West Ham before the transfer window closes on January 31. Portsmouth have made it clear they cannot afford to keep the defender who is available on a free transfer.

David Bernstein has been voted in as the new chairman of the Football Association.
