Ari saves the best for Last

Ari Last capped a memorable season by collecting the Solly Littlestone trophy after he was recognised as MGBSFL Player of the Year at the end of season awards on Monday night.

Captain marvel Last was a power-house in midfield in a season where Hendon United Sports Club claimed their second treble in three years - winning the Premier Division title, Peter Morrison National Trophy and Cyril Anekstein Cup.

"It's really nice to win the award and have my efforts recognised," Last told JC Sport. "There are lots of players in the team that could've won this award, including our keeper Russell Corin who won Hendon's Players' Player of the Year award last night.

"Everyone stepped up at different stages of the season. Ari Nevies was magnificent after Josh Lipman moved to Israel and Yoav Lebens was a massive signing - he helped ease my workload in midfield.

"We had a nice blend of family and friends and it was a really nice team to play for. Our run-in was a bit daunting. We were favourites every game and the 97th minute winner against Lions was a key moment, as was the double-header victory over Camden Park.

"I believe we were underdogs until four games to go, but we kept believing and ticking the games off. After that, we were under pressure as everyone expected us to win it."

Looking ahead to next season, Last commented: "It gets a bit more difficult every year and we're losing three players so will need to bring some young faces in. But we'll certainly give the treble a go."
