Another victory for MAL

articlemain

MAL continued their impressive 2008 season with a 5 wicket victory over Regals CC at the Trailfinders Sports Ground in West Ealing on Sunday.

On a surprisingly playable surface given the amount of rain that had fallen during the course of the morning, skipper Gav Lebens inserted Regals, looking to take advantage of any movement.

Opening bowlers Yoav Lebens and Martin Smulovitch both bowled well, extracting movement and bounce. Smulovitch was unlucky to only take 2 wickets in his spell, and was well supported by Lebens who picked up one himself. Josh Begner replaced Lebens, and though taking a bit of a clattering early on, bowled well, and was supported well in the field, finishing with the outstanding figures of 6-36. Mike Klinger also picked up a wicket, one of 3 catches pouched by Yoav Lebens during the innings.

In reply MAL slipped to 16-2 against some lively opening bowling, but the ship was somewhat steadied by Yoav Lebens who hit an aggressive 30 before being excellently caught at mid off. At 77-5 the game was still in the balance, but Adam Katten 16*, on debut, and Gavriel Lebens, 26*, saw MAL home with 8.4 overs remaining, as the clouds gathered and the rain began to get more persistent.
