A fine all-round performance from Steven Allweis helped South Manchester make a flying start to the GML season with a five-wicket success over Foresters.

Allweis excelled with bat and ball to ensure South made a strong start against another team expected to challenge for the title.

South won the toss and asked Foresters to bat and Allweis and Akiva Lieberman soon had them in trouble. Three wickets fell in the first three overs and South were on top.

South rotated the bowlers - using all their considerable resources available to them - to ensure they kept up the pressure, however gritty batting from Bailey 47, and Qadir 52 not out helped Foresters to post a respectable total of 155.

Allweis finished with 4-38 and Huddy Lieberman 2-3,3 with the rest of the wickets shared around.

South got off to a steady start with Steve Glicher and Elliot Koffman ensuring that a solid platform was laid for the rest of the innings.

Glicher (31) and Jeffries (13) put on 41 for the second wicket, but then Foresters hit back. At 98-5 South’s reply was beginning to wobble. However, they are made of sterner stuff these days and Allweis together with Huddy Lieberman were there at the end to see South home having put on 60.

Allweis finished with 52 not out, Lieberman 13 not out to cap a great first game team performance.
