In spite of searing heat and humidity, the four-day competition proved a good test of golf for all the competitors.

Team chair Samantha Diamond - one of the driving forces behind Jewish junior golf - was quick to point out: “As always we hope to use our success and enthusiasm as a building block to attract more young players to the sport and especially to promote the Maccabiah experience which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who took part.”

The format of four days medal rounds with the best three individual scores counting each day, saw the team in fourth place after the second round, just 10 shots behind Israel. The third days play saw them race up the leader board and go five shots ahead of Israel, putting them in the bronze medal position going into the final round.

Zack Balcombe, together with Logan Deyong, Joe Harris, Jay Sharer, Teddy Vandermolen and Josh Forshaw were the dream team. Their strong finish and excellent golf resulted in their well-deserved bronze medal.

There was further glory with Forshaw winning silver in the nett individual and Vandermolen secured another medal for his trophy cabinet by winning the bronze in the nett individual.

MGB Golf manager Ben Brownson commented: “The team and individual medals are a complete testament to their hard work before and during the Games. A superb turnaround from the position they were in at the end of day two and a success that was unimaginable when we first arrived in Israel.
