Maccabi Masters review: November 26

North London Raiders, Chigwell Athletic and HMH were celebrating victories in the Maccabi Masters Football League.

Division One pace-setters North London Raiders extended their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Scrabble, thanks to goals from Wayne Davidson and Ben Simons.

Also winning by the same score – though much less predictably – were HMH, who recorded their first win of the season as they edged out Brady A, courtesy of a brace from Jon Levene. Mark Wagman replied for Brady.

Chigwell Athletic came from a goal down at the break to crush Maccabi London Lions 5-1.

Max Radford had fired the Lions ahead from the penalty spot but Chigwell staged a second half fightback, with a hat-trick from Steve Summers plus goals from Lloyd Becker and Adam Klein to ensure Chigwell leapfrogged Lions into second spot.

In Division Two, the only game of the day proved to be an epic encounter between old adversaries Marshside and Glenthorne. Glenthorne took an early three-goal advantage, but Marshside pulled one back only for Glenthorne to score a fourth.

Marshside again fought back to 4-3 before conceding a fifth and then going down to 10 men. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Marshside continued to battle, and were rewarded with a fourth goal, but they gave away another goal to make it 6-4. With just a minute of the game remaining, Marshside clawed it back to 6-5 and in injury time, converted a penalty to restore parity at 6-6.

Marshside’s scorers in this most dramatic of matches were Gil Barel (2), Fara Moghim (2), Andrew Cohen and Barry Silkman, who converted the last-gasp penalty equaliser and deny Glenthorne the opportunity to take second place.
