Edmonton opened the scoring after ten minutes but the Lions rallied to equalise on the stroke of half-time when Dylan Phillips sent Louis Sampson clear and he lobbed the onrushing keeper.

Lions scored the winning goal 15 minutes into the second half when Jason Burns free-kick from halfway line bounced off the crossbar and captain Scott Leslie headed in the rebound  to set off wild scenes of celebration.

There were more chances at both ends, with MLL goalkeeper Josh Pamensky pulling off one tremendous save and there were despairing blocks and scrambles at both ends, but Lions held on.

Manager Nigel Burns, who runs the team along with assistant-manager Joel Phillips, said: “We were extremely proud of the boys, especially as they came from behind to win and it was a fantastic way to end the season.”
