Woody Allen asked to make film in Israel

articlemain

A campaign to encourage Woody Allen to make a film in Israel is being backed by Shimon Peres and has two mayors vying to win over the director, who has never been to Israel. Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat met Allen in New York earlier this year and invited him to visit the Israeli capital. Mr Allen said he would consider the offer. Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv mayor, said his officials had made a similar offer.

This year’s UK Jewish Film Festival will open at London’s BFI Southbank on November 1 with the British premiere of romantic comedy Paris-Manhattan, about a woman who is obsessed with Woody Allen.

Film executive Stephen Margolis has been unveiled as the new chairman of the festival, succeeding David Kustow. Mr Margolis is chairman and chief executive of the London-based Future Films company.
