United States vote against UNHRC Gaza motion

articlemain

The United States has voted against a resolution by a UN body condemning Israel’s raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Italy and the Netherlands also voted against the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) document, while the UK abstained.

The Palestinian-sponsored resolution was passed by a majority of 32. It calls for Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza and for an independent probe into the incident.

The UNHRC previously instigated the controversial Goldstone Report into the 2009 Gaza war.

On Tuesday the UN Security Council called for “a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards.”

US diplomats said they had full confidence in Israel’s ability to carry out a full investigation.
