Ukrainian rabbi stabbed in antisemitic attack

articlemain

A senior Ukrainian rabbi has been stabbed in what appears to be an antisemitic attack in Kiev.

Rabbi Hillel Cohen was knifed in his legs and back as two unidentified attackers called him a “Zyhd” (Jew).

Rabbi Cohen, the chairman of Hatzalah Ukraine, an emergency services organisation, was treated in Kiev hospital and is now recovering at home.

The incident occurred as Rabbi Cohen was on his way to visit a sick Jewish tourist in Kiev hospital.

A wave of antisemitic incidents has recently hit the Ukraine. This year, a rabbinical student was stabbed, a Hebrew teacher attacked, local Jewish cemeteries have been vandalised and a synagogue in Zaporizhia, eastern Ukraine, was firebombed.
