Nicole Krauss up for National Book Award

The History of Love writer has been nominated for her new book

Jewish American author Nicole Krauss has been nominated for the prestigious National Book Award for her latest book, Great House.

The writer, married to novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, is one of five authors competing in the fiction category.

The book, her third, tells the story of reclusive novelist and an antiques dealer in Jerusalem.

Ms Krauss won international acclaim for her bestseller The History of Love, published in 2005.

Past winners of the award include Isaac Bashevis Singer, Philip Roth and Saul Bellow.

The prize is worth more than £6,000.

The winner will be announced on November 17.
