Three more arrests over assault on Argentina's chief rabbi

Police in Argentina have arrested three more members of a gang suspected of attacking the country’s chief rabbi and leaving him with serious injuries.

Gabriel Davidovich was hospitalised with nine broken ribs and a punctured lung after the midnight break-in at his home in February.

Buenos Aires police said money, jewellery and other objects matching descriptions given to them were recovered during a raid on Monday night.

The chief rabbi’s wife was restrained as the robbery took place at 2am on February 25.

But it is not being treated as a hate crime after reports indicated it may have been a revenge attack arranged by a member of Argentina’s Jewish community involved in a divorce case in which the chief rabbi adjudicated, JTA reported.

Gabriel Davidovich was also quoted as saying he was not sure whether the attack was antisemitic, even though he heard his attackers shout “We know that you are the Amia rabbi”, referring to Argentina’s Jewish community group.

Two other men were caught last month after fingerprints on one of the house windows were matched to them.
