Madonna donates to Jewish, Kabbalah charities

articlemain

Madonna donated thousands of dollars to a Jewish charity last year, according to the tax records for her charitable foundation which have been published on the website Showbiz 411.

The pop star, who is also a famous follower of Jewish mysticism Kabbalah, gave the Jewish Big Brothers and Sisters scheme $10,000 in 2009.

The charity, based in Los Angeles, runs mentoring programmes for Jewish children.

Of the nearly $2.9 million the singer donated to different causes in 2009 through her Ray of Light Foundation, a vast proportion went to organisations with links with the Kabbalah movement.

She gave $2.25 million to Raising Malawi, which she set up with Michael Berg in 2006. Mr Berg is the son of Rabbi Philip Berg, the spiritual leader of the Kabbalah Centre.

Madonna also made a $200,000 donation to Spirituality for Kids, an offshoot of the Kabbalah Centre which in 2008 ran into controversy for trying to access schools in Britain and the United States.
