A Jewish rapper has made the list of top earners in the hip hop industry, as compiled by Forbes magazine.

Drake, said to be worth $11 million, appeared in joint 11th place with rapper Wiz Khalifa.

The Canadian star, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, released his first album Thank Me Later last year and it went straight to number one in the charts. He first shot to fame as an actor on the Canadian teenage drama series Degrassi

His mother is Jewish and after his parents divorced she raised him alone in the strongly Jewish Forest Hill area of Toronto. He later attended a Jewish school and had a bar mitzvah. In 2010 Heeb magazine dubbed him "the first-ever black Jewish rap star".

He was placed above a number of high-profile hip hop artists in this year's Forbes list, including Pharrell Williams, 50 Cent and Timbaland.
