Costa Rican President Oscar Arias has appointed a Jewish legislator to his cabinet. Clara Zomer, a member of the Central American nation's B'nei Israel congregation, has taken on the role of housing minister, forgoing her place in the national legislative assembly. Six months ago, Mr Arias angered Israel - and his own country's Jewish community - by recognising a Palestinian state, ahead of an agreed two-state solution.
