Democrats have challenged Donald Trump’s appointment yesterday of his son-in-law Jared Kushner as a senior adviser.

Members of the House Judiciary Committee have queried whether the role creates a conflict of interests.

Mr Kushner, 36, a property-developer and media owner who is married to Mr  Trump’s daughter Ivanka, played a critical part in his father-in-law’s election campaign.

The Democrats wrote to outgoing American Attorney-General Loretta Lynch to say Mr Kushner’s White House post “may allow him to influence policy that  benefits his business interests”, according to ABC News.

Mr Kushner was committed to “complying with federal ethics laws and we have been consulting with the Office of Government Ethics regarding the steps he would take”, his lawyer Jamie Gorelick said.

Mr Trump will be inaugurated as president in 10 days.
