Israeli pilots jailed over maps leak

articlemain

Fourteen Israeli combat pilots have been disciplined for storing secret maps and operational documents on their smart-phones. Two received short military prison sentences and the rest received suspended sentences and fines.

The security breach, which has been termed by IDF commanders as very serious, was discovered when one of the pilots reported his phone lost and notified his commanding officer that it had classified information on it. The squadron recovered the phone and had it examined by security officers. Following their discovery of a number of maps and other military documents, a wider investigation was launched. The 14 sanctioned pilots all said that they had the information for training purposes.
