Israel gets gold in Paralympic swimming

Israel took its first gold medal at the 2013 World Paralympic Swimming Championships on Friday in the 100-metre freestyle.

Yitzhak Mamistvalov, who has cerebal palsy, was competing at the event in Montreal, Canada.

He completed the course in 2 min, 23.72 seconds. Mr Mamistvalov, who swims with only his right hand, is the world record holder in his category in the 50m, 100m and 200m men’s freestyle, and holds four Paralympic Games medals.

This is Israel’s second medal of the competition; Inbal Pezaro won a silver medal on Tuesday for the women's 200-metre freestyle.
