The head of Israel’s Labour Party, Isaac Herzog, has expressed his outrage at the allegations of antisemitism within its UK counterpart.

In a letter to UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, he said: "As someone whose father served in the British army and risked his life fighting against Hitler and the Nazis, the views expressed by Ken Livingstone... were particularly horrific."

He also condemned Labour MP Naz Shah's comment that Israelis should be deported to the US.

He added that while he thought Mr Livingstone was "beyond redemption", he hoped that Mr Corbyn would accept an invitation to visit Yad Vashem with him to "witness the last time Jews were forcibly transported - to their deaths."

He also wrote that he believed the antisemitic views expressed were “only a small and loud minority” within the UK Labour Party.

Fellow Labour MK Nachman Shai urged ending ties as “there is a toxic atmosphere of hatred and fanaticism in British Labour” and consequently “it is no longer a sister party with which we can have close relations and coordinate policy.”

Former Labour leader and current MK Amir Peretz said that UK Labour was suffering from “a moral collapse that requires immediate and unequivocal action.”
