French Olympian with tattoo tribute to Auschwitz survivor wins silver

articlemain

Fabien Gilot, a member of the French Olympic swimming team, wears his heart on his sleeve – or more accurately, on his arm.

As reported by the JC in 2012 , tattooed in Hebrew on his arm are the words “Ani Klum Biladeihem”, meaning “I am nothing without them.”

The words are a tribute to the second husband of Mr Gilot’s grandmother; Max Goldschmidt, an Auschwitz survivor, who was described by the swimmer’s father as “a grandfather to Fabien in every way”.

Mr Gilot won gold as part of the French Olympic relay swimming team in 2012, winning silver earlier this week in the same category.
