Fifa says it will not take disciplinary action against the Russian and Croatian football associations for the antisemitic behaviour of their fans at the World Cup.

In a statement the international football body said: “The chairman of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee considered that there were not enough elements to open proceedings against the Russia Football Union nor the Croatian Football Federation.”

But Fifa also said it remained committed to a “zero-tolerance stance against any form of discrimination - this is enshrined in the Fifa statutes”.

Russian and Croatian supporters were accused of displaying antisemitic and neo-Nazi banners at the tournament.

Both Croatia and Russia have failed to qualify for next stage of the tournament.

Earlier this week, Fifa dropped disciplinary proceedings against Mexico over allegations of homophobic chanting by their fans.
