Streisand to sing live at Grammy awards

articlemain

Barbra Streisand is to delight fans with an unusual live performance this weekend.

The singer will take to the stage at the annual Grammy awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, where she is nominated for her album Love Is the Answer.

She will also be honoured on Friday for "creative accomplishments and philanthropy" by the Grammy's charitable foundation MusiCares.

A performance at the event celebrating her five-decade career in music and film is expected to include Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder.

Ms Streisand, 68, has won eight Grammy’s but has never performed solo at the ceremony before. She rarely tours and tends to limit her public performances to charity appearances. On her last European tour in 2007, tickets went for up to £1,000 for the London show.

The Funny Girl star recently revealed that she was to play Mama Rose in a new film version of the 1959 Broadway classic Gypsy, and that she was also considering directing it.

Barry Manilow and Canadian rapper Drake are among the Jewish stars hoping to pick up trophies at the music industry’s most prestigious awards.
