Alleged rape victim of Brooklyn counsellor had to ‘re-enact pornography’

articlemain

The alleged teenage rape victim of a Satmar Chasidic community leader in Brooklyn, New York, testified on Friday that she was forced to watch pornography and then re-enact the sex acts, the New York Daily News has reported.

The now 17-year-old girl said that 54-year-old Nechemya Weberman, whom she described as a member of the powerful “modesty committee” of the Satmar community, made her “copy what was in the porn”, in sexual abuse that she says started when she was only 12 years old.

The girl finished her testimony after four days on the stand in a trial that has caused uproar in the strictly Orthodox community in Brooklyn, and has been marred by alleged incidents of witness intimidation.

The trial judge called three strictly Orthodox men to court after they took pictures of the alleged victim in the courtroom and posted them on the internet. In addition, three men have been charged with harassment after reportedly stripping the alleged victim’s husband of his restaurant’s kosher certificate. Another man has been accused of offering the couple $500,000 in order to drop the case.

The Satmar community has acted to support Mr Weberman. It has held fundraisers to pay for his defence and senior members of the community have been highly critical of the alleged victim.
