UJS vote Daniel Grabiner as new president

articlemain

Daniel Grabiner has been elected as the new president of the Union of Jewish Students.

The 21-year-old, who ran on the slogan “Grabiner - Making UJS current”, won by 258 votes to 90. Students from more than 30 campuses took part in a nationwide election roadshow.

The Leeds University Economics and Politics student will take over from current president Alex Dwek in July.

Mr Grabiner said he was “elated and still in shock” at his win.

“I’ve been thinking about this for so long – I can’t believe it’s actually happening.”

“Everyone has been unbelievably supportive,” he added. “After the result my Blackberry nearly exploded because I had so many messages!”

He thanked his opponent Marcelle Jennings for an enjoyable and challenging campaign. “She’s an amazing and sensational candidate and we are still good friends,” he said. “I hope she will still be involved in UJS.”

“My big thing is to make UJS involving, relevant and engaging. UJS has the potential to be phenomenal and to do unbelievable things.”

But for now, he said he would be taking the “sound advice” of the current chair and focusing on his studies.

The outgoing chair added: “I wish Daniel every success with his finals and look forward to working with him to ensure UJS goes from strength to strength."
