Two new Jewish knights are honoured

Professor Sir Mark Pepys has received a knighthood in the New Year's honours list for his groundbreaking biomedical work. As a clinical scientist, he developed new drugs for potential use in conditions like Alzheimer's disease, heart attacks and strokes.

Sir George Iacobescu, chief executive of Canary Wharf Group, has been knighted. Sir George is a patron of CST and Jewish Care, and a founding co-chair of Teach First.

Philanthropist Dr Alan Diamond, received an OBE for voluntary and public service. Dr Diamond is a patron of Norwood, and a supporter of CST and Youth Aliyah.

London-born hotelier Laurence Geller was made CBE. Now based in Chicago, Mr Geller is on the board of the American Jewish Committee.

Hendon Synagogue member Dr Ian Birnbaum, former strategic director for children and young people in the London borough of Sutton, was made an OBE. And Plymouth's Keith White, who represented Britain in five Maccabiah Games, was made MBE.
