A Chasidic boys’ school in Stamford Hill threatened with closure two years ago has won its battle to remain open.

Chaim Meirim Talmud Torah Wiznitz has been told it now meets all the required standards for independent schools for health, safety and pupil wellbeing following a fresh visit from inspectors.

The school’s last action plan for improvement had failed to win approval from the Department for Education four months ago.

But after an unannounced inspection Ofsted found the school was now complying with relevant guidelines.

Parents are receiving reports of their son’s academic progress twice a year, suitable changing and showering facilities have been made and an adequate anti-bullying policy introduced.

Inspectors also reported “all staff have been trained in the prevention of radicalisation and extremism”.

Chaim Meirim is run by one of the largest Chasidic sects for 259 boys aged from five to 13. Most speak English as an additional language.

Charedi schools have been under growing pressure from the secular authorities since the government’s attempted clampdown on religious extremism.
