There’s no boycott for Manchester City’s Arab owner

Arab-owned Premier League club Manchester City has hired an Israeli company to design its website.

The club has sealed a deal with Tel Aviv-based Wix.com to develop its presence on the internet and social media. Signs promoting the Wix brand will be displayed at City’s Etihad Stadium during all Premier League and cup matches.

Wix.com chief marketing officer Omer Shai said that nationality and religion had not been an issue during negotiations with Manchester City, who were taken over by United Arab Emirates Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour in 2008.

“I didn’t think about religion. It didn’t cross my mind. The reason we joined forces was that both companies want to be number one in the world. It was about two great companies doing great stuff together. It shows everyone that we can make deals between our peoples,” Mr Shai said.

Omar Berrada, commercial director for City’s marketing arm, said the club was “excited” to be working with Wix, which, he said, “offers a unique website design and hosting platform”.
