Swastika stickers in Yorkshire

articlemain

The Community Security Trust has condemned a series of far-right stickers featuring swastikas and references to a neo-Nazi organisation which have been posted in public places.

White supremacist group Combat 18 - the numbers represent Hitler's initials - was named on several large stickers on lampposts in Hull, Yorkshire, alongside a swastika-emblazoned British flag.

Other posters mentioned the far-right National Front above the message: "Close the borders, start repatriation."

A CST spokesman said: "Though there is no indication that this was specifically targeting the Hull Jewish community, the far-right have a long and dark history in trying to undermine community cohesion with their poisonous ideology."

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said the stickers "were designed to cause racial harassment and alarm".

Officers removed them "to prevent distress to the public" and launched an inquiry.

The spokeswoman said: "The officers investigating the incident are urging anyone who knows those responsible or witnessed the sticker being put up to call the police."
