Street stalls continue to sell 'Yid' merchandise at Arsenal stadium

Street vendors have continued to sell “yid” merchandise outside the Emirates Stadium, despite the threat of action by Islington Council.

Badges that read “Keep Calm, Hate the Yids!” were spotted ahead of the FA Cup tie between Arsenal and Liverpool on Sunday.

A Jewish Arsenal fan, who did not want to be identified, reported the ongoing sale to police on standby.

He said: “I told the policeman in the van nearby, but he was hesitant. I told him this had happened before and nothing has been done.”

An Islington Council spokeswoman earlier told the JC they would send people to investigate.

“We will bring them to the panel and they could lose their licence,” she said.

But no representative was at Sunday’s match.

A council spokesman said: “Officers from the council and police have followed up this complaint. We will take all appropriate necessary action.”

A Metropolitan police spokesman confirmed that no arrests were made.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” he said.

Three Spurs fans have been charged in connection with the use of the Y-word. They go on trial on March 11.
