A bus stop in one of the UK’s most Jewish neighbourhoods has been defaced with antisemitic graffiti, including the words “too many Yids – f*** off”.

The graffiti, which was found in the Amhurst Park area of Stamford Hill, north-east London, was publicised by the Shomrim Jewish neighbourhood watch group.

According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police: “Police in Hackney were informed via social media @MetCC [the twitter account for the Metropolitan Police Contact Centre] of antisemitic graffiti on a bus stop in Amhurst Park, N16 at 18:26hrs on Tuesday, 22 August.

“The local policing team are working to capture the images and remove the graffiti in partnership with the local authority.”

Vandals appear to have used two or more different pens to deface the bus stop. Another message, which appears to have read “too many Jews in this country”, had been scribbled out, but not before the word “Jews” had been crossed out by someone else and replaced with the word “racists”.

Additionally, the figure of a man was drawn, with what appears to be a Hitler moustache.

Rabbi Herschel Gluck, president of Stamford Hill Shomrim, said: "It is shocking to see this obscene graffiti, especially in a neighbourhood where a large number of people and their close relatives have suffered during the Holocaust.

“I trust that all people of goodwill will join me in condemning this unreservedly."
