Spurned lover sent sex DVD to family

A hairdresser secretly filmed sex sessions with his married lover — and then sent a DVD to her children after she broke off the affair.

Justin Sears, 42, bombarded the mother of four with 10,000 abusive phone calls and text messages and crashed into her car when she ended the two-year relationship.

He also forced his way into her car and cut her waist-length hair almost to the scalp.

Last week, Sears was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to harassment and two charges of assault.

Wood Green Crown Court heard that the woman ended the affair after her husband found out. But Sears’ attempts to woo her back turned from pleas to threats, and acts of aggression.

The woman who describes herself as “traditionally Jewish” with children at Jewish schools, suffered repeated harassment between May 2006 and October 2007 until Sears was arrested and remanded in custody, Judge Anne Molyneux was told.

Tim Starkey, prosecuting, said that the first incident took place in May 2006. “The defendant crashed his car into her vehicle after she told him that she did not want to see him any more.”

On July 30, 2006, after a series of unanswered texts, he made abusive calls, which continued into October. “There were about 50 calls and text messages of an abusive and explicit nature,” he said. In October, Sears, of Woodford, Essex, forced her to let him into her car, he added. “He ordered her to come back to his home. He then started cutting her hair. She was scared and shaking with fear.”

The harassment continued and Sears rang the woman’s husband, warning: “Next time it will not be her hair, but her throat.”

Sears then began threatening to distribute the DVD he had made of the couple having sex.

“The DVD was of an explicit nature with the defendant and the complainant engaged in sexual activity. It was filmed without her knowledge or permission,” said Mr Starkey. The court heard that Sears had sent a copy to two of the plaintiff’s older children.

“He sent a number of texts saying that he had shown the film to friends who had enjoyed it.

“He threatened to distribute it to her son’s school shortly before his barmitzvah.”

On March 27 2007, Sears carried out an attack on the victim and threatened her with a plastic knife.

Three weeks later he left a message: “Next time it is going to be a proper knife. I am going to kill you and cut your face.”

Wayne Cleaver, defending, said: “He had the very deepest emotional feelings for her. He accepts he began to over-react, and behave in an inappropriate way.”

Judge Molyneux said that she had reduced the sentence because Sears was the main carer for his 80-year-old invalid mother. He also has a disabled son.

The judge ordered an extended licence period of two years on his release during which time he must attend a domestic violence unit.
