Singer Sophie Hiller will share the stage with Sir Tom Jones as he serenades the Queen at the BBC Jubilee concert next Monday.

The 21-year-old from Barnet has toured as one of the pop star’s two backing singers for two years, belting out hits like It’s Not Unusual and What’s New Pussycat across the US and Europe.

But she says the Jubilee concert will be a highlight. “It’s so exciting, we’re definitely going to sing the big hits. We only found out recently that we’d definitely be taking part because we were not sure if the concert would use a house band. Now I’m really looking forward to it.”

Around 100,000 people will attend the free concert, which includes performances from Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Sir Elton John and Robbie Williams.

“I suspect it’s the biggest crowd we’ve performed in front of so far,” Sophie said.
