Sheikh Salah thanks the Neturei Karta

articlemain

Islamic political activist Raed Salah has met leaders of the strictly Orthodox anti-Zionist Neturei Karta sect, to thank them for their support.

The meeting, in London on Tuesday, came after the group backed Sheikh Salah in his fight against deportation from Britain. He also thanked them for taking part in the Al Quds Day rally in Trafalgar Square last week.

In July, Neturei Karta leaders said Sheikh Salah had regularly met their members in Israel and had welcomed them with "great friendship" and had assured them he "has nothing against Jews, only against Zionists".

Sheikh Salah, leader of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, was detained in June after allegedly flouting a ban on entering Britain imposed by the Home Office.

He was later released from prison on bail and his full deportation case is expected to be heard later this month.

As part of the bail agreement, the 52-year-old father-of-eight is now electronically tagged, must report daily to an immigration centre and observe a 15-hour nightly curfew. He is also banned from speaking in public.
