Security in shopping centre after Nairobi attack

Security at Westfield shopping centres is being monitored in the wake last month’s terrorist attack in Kenya.

At least 60 people were killed after al-Shabaab Islamists conducted a siege at the Israeli-owned Westgate Mall.

In the UK, the Westfield Group, which was co-founded by Australian-Israeli businessman Frank Lowy, owns malls in London’s Shepherds Bush and Stratford. A spokesman said it was working “closely with its on-site Metropolitan police and security team as well as the various authorities to help ensure that it has the appropriate level of security in place.”

A Brent Cross Shopping Centre spokesperson said it had “invested significantly in emergency preparedness.
