Sacha Baron-Cohen: It's Purim not a wedding!

Sacha Baron Cohen and fiancée Isla Fisher have denied rumours they are planning to tie the knot at the end of February, insisting all they are planning is a Purim party.

Borat star Mr Baron-Cohen and his Australian actress fiancée Miss Fisher, who have a two-year-old daughter Olive, sent an email to 80 guests telling them to keep February 26 free.

The Daily Mail reported the couple were planning their nuptials that day, but Mr Baron-Cohen’s spokesman said the pair were throwing a fancy dress Purim party.

He said: "They're having a Purim party. That is all!"

The couple, who have been an item for eight years, had planned to marry in August 2006 but the wedding was cancelled so Miss Fisher could complete her conversion.

Mr Baron-Cohen’s Orthodox family are said to be finally content with Ms Fisher’s conversion, and she has taken the Hebrew name Ayala.

In an interview this time last year, Ms Fisher said: “I love Judaism, the fact that there’s such a huge emphasis on family and, to me, family’s everything.

“We’re quite observant, we keep Shabbat and do Friday night dinner and celebrate the holidays. I really enjoy being part of that Jewish community. I have visited Israel recently and I love it there.

“I speak a bit of Hebrew and they recognise me from Home And Away so it’s great.”
