Rachel Stevens was forced to dive for cover when a gunman opened fire in a north London restaurant.

The singer, who a few weeks ago was robbed at her home, was in Harry Morgan in St John's Wood with her fiancé Alex Bourne and members of her family when a man came in wearing a crash helmet.

Five shots were fired and a 31-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy who were buying takeaway food were wounded. No other diners, including Stevens and the BBC journalist Hugh Pym, were hurt in the incident at around 9pm on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Stevens told the Press Association: "Rachel and her family were in a restaurant where there was gunfire. It was very frightening for everyone there but none of the diners were hurt."

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg while the boy was hit in the arm.They are both in a stable condition and their injuried are not life-threatening injuries, Scotland Yard said.

Mr Pym, the BBC's chief economics correspondent, said: "I immediately went to ground and pulled my 15-year-old son under the table. We were aware of a guy running through.

"He didn't appear as if he had a weapon - it felt like he was the victim. We were under the table and everyone was shouting 'stay down, stay down'. People were pretty shaken up and were wailing in shock more than anything else.”

The items stolen in the earlier attack on Ms Stevens are believed to be stolen included her engagement ring, a necklace and a Rolex watch.
