Prince Charles will meet two British Holocaust survivors today at the Jewish Museum in Vienna, as part of an official visit to Austria.

Freddie Knoller and Harry Bibring will speak to the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall about their early lives in Austria, which was the home to 185,000 Jews before the Second World War.

Mr Knoller, 95, survived Auschwitz-Birkenau, while 91-year-old Mr Bibring arrived in Britain as a child on the Kindertransport.

Both learned after the Holocaust that their parents had been murdered, and they rebuilt their lives in Britain.

Mr Bibring said: “It is such an honour to meet His Royal Highness, and especially in Vienna, which means a lot to me.

“During the Holocaust I lost my parents, my freedom, my childhood hobbies and sports, and my ability to go to school – but I am so proud to be British, and today is a special day.”

Mr Knoller said he was “so happy” to be in Vienna to remember his parents.

Both men speak on behalf of the Holocaust Educational Trust, which arranged the visit with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The trust, founded in 1988, aims to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust in schools and among the wider public.
