The headteacher of Hasmonean High School has asked for a meeting with the Borough Commander of Barnet police after an incident on a bus on Wednedsday in which boys were "physically and verbally abused".

Andrew McClusky told parents that the property of one boy was destroyed on the 240 bus taking pupils from the boys’ school in Hendon to Edgware.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV evidence of an earlier incident on a 113 bus, which carries pupils from the girls’ branch of the school in Mill Hill.

Mr McClusky said he had asked police to “patrol the buses on all Hasmonean routes in the morning and evening to enable our students to travel to and from school in safety, and will continue to pursue this matter to ensure our students are safe.”

The CST was also liaising with police to discuss patrolling the buses and had offered extra training to ensure pupils remained safe, he said.

He asked parents to ensure their children stayed together when going to and from school and “not to engage with anyone who provokes them” but to report any incident.

The boys who were victims of Wednesday's incident were interviewed by police on Thursday.
