A man has been detained by the police today after he reportedly walked through a Jewish area shouting “Allah! Allah! I’m going to kill you all”.

Police in Hackney detained the man this morning, on Lealand Road in Stamford Hill. He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

In a statement released by Shomrim, the Jewish neighbourhood watch organisation, the man was described as “shouting threats, with members of the public rushing away from him, fearing for their immediate safety.

“Thankfully police were able to detain him, and prevent further incident.”

The incident comes at a time of heightened tension within London, with Jewish security organisations remaining on high alert in the wake of terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.

In a statement released to the media, the police said that after “a report of a man using threatening words and behaviour… officers attended and subsequently located and stopped the man in Lealand Road, Tottenham.

“He was detained by officers under the Mental Heath Act.

“No one was injured. This is not being treated as terror-related”.
