Pensioner battered at home by burglars

articlemain

An elderly couple were left shocked and battered after two men burst into their Manchester home, kicking the 76-year-old wife before making off with cash.

The attack happened last Friday at the home of Evelyn and Harold Davidson in Prestwich. Mrs Davidson answered the door to a man posing as a window-cleaner. He kicked her repeatedly before a second man entered, ransacking the house. Her 89-year-old husband fought back with his two walking-sticks and was unharmed.

"One pulled me down like a rag-doll - I was petrified," said Mrs Davidson, who was taken to hospital and treated for concussion and multiple bruises. "He said ‘shut up and stay there', held my face down and knocked my false teeth out."

The men escaped with cash along with a collection of Israeli coins dating from 1948. The couple are members of Sha'arei Shalom, North Manchester Reform Synagogue, in Whitefield.
PC Jeff Lyons, from the Bury Volume Crime Unit, said: "This was a cowardly attack on two vulnerable pensioners. The two men we are looking for assaulted a defenceless woman."
