Parliamentary Jewish group set to launch next month

articlemain

The new Parliamentary group to promote Jewish issues will launch next month, it has been announced.

The inaugural meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews will take place in Westminster on October 9 and will include the election of a chairman and officers.

In a letter to MPs and peers this week, Hendon MP Matthew Offord, the leading politician behind the group’s formation, pledged that its work would not duplicate that of existing APPGs which work on issues of interest to the Jewish community.

Mr Offord had originally planned to hold the meeting on Monday this week, but it has been moved because the House of Lords does not return from its summer recess until October 8.

The Board this week again refused to reveal the names of parliamentarians who have pledged to back the group.

MPs returned to work last week, but the Board said no further details would be released until the group is officially launched.

A Board spokesman said 45 Parliamentarians had pledged to join, but he claimed their names could not yet be divulged.
