An inquiry into the rise of antisemitism has been launched by a leading Parliamentary committee.

The Commons’ Home Affairs Select Committee announced this afternoon that it would carry out a “short inquiry” into Jew-hatred.

The probe will consider whether prejudice against the Jewish community has increased, and whether the dangers facing Jews have emerged from terrorism.

Committee chairman Keith Vaz said: "There has been a clear and recognised upsurge in attacks against mosques and Muslim communities, but we are also seeing a disturbing rise in far-right extremist groups across Europe.

“We have heard concerns about an increase in prejudice and violence against Jewish communities.

“We will hold a short inquiry to examine this issue and invite interested parties to give evidence."

No further details of the remit of the inquiry have so far been announced.

In February last year the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism published a 120-page report outlining a series of recommendations on tackling Jew-hatred.
