STUDENTS who join university Jewish societies (J-Socs) will receive a variety of discounts for the first time this year.

UJS has secured a deal with companies that have agreed to give membership-card holders money off their services and products.

These include restaurants, off-licences, clothes shops, taxis and much more.

It will be the first year UJS members will receive such cards and have their membership numbers entered on to a database of J-Socs around the country. Students need to register for the card on the UJS website, ujs-online.co.uk.

"This is how they will get their discounts and we are therefore encouraging all J-Socs to sign up to this system," said Elliot Cowan, marketing and PR director for UJS.

He hailed the scheme as "a Jewish version of an NUS card".

Anyone attending university is currently entitled to receive an NUS card which offers discounts at places such as Topshop and Dominos Pizza.

Those holding additional J-Soc cards will also receive additional discounts at kosher restaurant Solly's in Golders Green, Titanics kosher store in Manchester, El Al, and David Lloyd gyms, among others.
