MPs get free lessons in krav maga after Jo Cox killing

articlemain

Krav maga, the self-defence technique used by the Israeli army, is being taught to MPs in the wake of the killing of Jo Cox.

Two MPs and 18 aides attended the first training session in Westminster last week.

The free lessons are being offered following the fatal attack on Ms Cox, who was stabbed and shot outside her constituency office.

According to the Mail on Sunday, a company called Parli-Training is behind the initiative.

Founder Mendora Ogbogbo said MPs were being shown “techniques where if someone comes at them with a knife or a gun, they can disarm the weapons and then run. They are not being taught how to fight.”

A second all-day session has been organised for November.

Krav maga was created by Hungarian Jewish expert, Imi Lichtenfeld, who combined boxing and steet-fighting as a means of self-defence against antisemitic attacks in pre-war Europe.

He developed it further when he became chief fitness instructor of the Israeli Defence Force after making aliyah.

In recent years it has been popularised by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon and Daniel Craig.
