London synagogue vandalised

articlemain

Police are investigating an attack on a north London synagogue.

Vandals smashed a window at Cockfosters & North Southgate Synagogue. The shul's rabbi Daniel Epstein said the incident had saddened his congregation.

The shul has increased security under the advice of the Community Security Trust and police are examining the synagogue's CCTV recordings to assist in their investigations.

Local MP David Burrowes, a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Antisemitism, said he believed the incident to be antisemitic.

Mr Burrowes said: "I utterly condemn the attack. My constituents are used to living peacefully alongside neighbours from all backgrounds and creeds.

"This nasty attack, and the hateful antisemitism behind it, has no place here."

Police are also looking into pro-Palestinian posters that have been stuck on the window of a Norwood charity shop in nearby Southgate.

A Norwood spokesman said the incidents had taken place over the past three weeks. Police "have been involved from the start and have taken appropriate action," he said.
