King cancels Board visit

The king of Jordan, King Abdullah, has cancelled his visit to London next week where he was due to be the special guest of the Board of Deputies of Briitish Jews at their annual fundraising dinner.

There had been anxiety about the visit all week since fighting erupted between Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza. The king, whose wife Queen Rania is Palestinian, was already facing severe economic protest on the streets of Amman.
