Katie Hopkins, the controversial radio presenter, has been reported to police after calling for a “final solution” in response to the Manchester terrorist attack.

In message posted on Twitter, the LBC host and newspaper columnist wrote: “Do not be part of the problem.  We need a final solution.”

The phrase echoes the Nazi Final Solution, the plan for the genocide of Europe's Jews in the Holocaust.

Ms Hopkins message was directed at This Morning TV host Philip Schofield and was later deleted and replaced with a re-worded message reading: “We need a true solution".

In further messages on Twitter, Ms Hopkins also called for Britain to follow the example of Israel  and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

She wrote: “My kids asked why Israel stays so safe. Because BiBi is not afraid of action. And the IDF aren't afraid of anything. “

Social media users immediately labelled her post as a incitement to genocide.

The Independent newspaper said she has been reported to the Metropolitan Police over the “final solution” tweet, which was part of a longer anti-Muslim tirade.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “We can confirm that a complaint has been received by the Metropolitan Police Service on Tuesday, 23 May in relation to a Tweet published on the same day. “As is routine, the allegation will be reviewed and assessed by specialist officers.”

Her initial Tweet to Mr Schofield said:”22 dead – number rising. Schofield. Don’t know even dare. Do not be part of the problem. We need a final solution. #Machester”

The Tweet was later amended to correct the spelling of #Manchester and to state “We need a true solution.”

Ms Hopkins also made controversial comments in the wake of the Westminster terror attack, telling Fox News that Londoners were “cowed”, “afraid” and “not united”.
