Jewish safe thieves convicted

articlemain

A Jewish man and three accomplices have been convicted of stealing a safe from a family home.

Ronen Izraelov, 21, took the safe from the property in Finchley, north London, in November last year.

Working with brothers Orcan and Soner Kubilay, and another person who cannot be named because of his age, Izraelov conspired to take the unit and its contents from the home of Benzion Nassim, who was away on holiday.

But the quartet were unable to move the safe far and were arrested after they were seen dumping it near the house in the early hours of the morning.

Izraelov, of Broughton Avenue, Finchley, and the three others were found guilty at Wood Green Crown Court following a two-week trial. They will be sentenced in January.

Giving evidence to the trial, Mr Nassim said the safe contained diamond and gold jewellery and that the items had been returned to him after being recovered by police.

He had told the jury he felt it would be an “injustice” if the men were convicted.

A fifth defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was cleared of the same charge of conspiracy to steal.
